De Jong, a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, will be driving across the U.S. to support the Woody Williams Foundation and to honor the Gold Star Families by stopping at 15-18 Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments across the country. De Jong will carry with him a portrait of Marine Woody Williams, created by yet another Marine and world famous artist, Michael G. Reagan and his Fallen Heroes Project. Over the last eighteen years Michael G. Reagan has drawn over 8,200 portraits of Fallen Heroes; those who died in service to our country. All portraits were given to the Gold Star Families, free of charge.
Funds raised will be used to further the mission to honor and serve Gold Star Families and the legacy of their Loved Ones who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
All travel expenses will be paid by Tennis and Caryl de Jong as their contribution to the Woody Williams Foundation. This means 100% of all donations will go directly to the foundation. Please support the mission of the Woody Williams Foundation by making your donation today.
De Jong's mission began in Forks, WA the most westerly Gold Star Family Memorial Monument in the continental United States, and he will go as far south as Tallahassee Florida and as far northeast as the grave site of Marine LCpl Vincent "Vinnie" Santaniello in the Long Island National Cemetery, New York. At each stop the Gold Star family members can sign the back side of the framed portrait of Woody Williams. We hope to have over a hundred signatures when the portrait is presented to Woody at his home in West Virginia. All in all de Jong will travel through 26 states and drive about 8,000 miles.
