LOUISVILLE, Ky. —Family of those who served the United States enjoyed a day at the races on Sunday afternoon.
Gold Star Families from across the country were on Millionaires Row at Churchill Downs for "Survivors Day."
Surviving family members of the military who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms were recognized at the event.
"Today is a day for them to be together; a time for us to honor them and their loved one, but also a time for them to be together in fellowship and peer support and just be with each other as we celebrate their loved ones and their legacy," said Kelland Garland with the Woody Williams Foundation.
With Veterans Day quickly approaching next Saturday, Nov. 11 the community showed their appreciation to the families.
"Survivors Day" is one of the largest Gold Star Family events in the United States. About 700 family members were at Churchill Downs for the day.
