The City of Biloxi has been working with Keesler Federal Credit Union, the Gulf Coast Gold Star families, and the Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation to bring a Gold Star Family Monument to the city.
The monument will be in Guice Park, located on U.S. 90 at the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor. It also is home to other war hero monuments and memorials. It’s designed to honor families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.
An former Marine who is now a Biloxi resident is spearheading the project.
Biloxi Public Relations Representative Cecilia Dobbs-Walton says this is the best way to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. “Biloxi is over 320 years old so we have a very diverse community. The city has grown. We have a lot of residents who have come through here and still live here and a lot of visitors as well and with that a lot of people who have family members that served in a war and some that unfortunately lost a family member. This just adds on the way to honor the people who served.”
The groundbreaking is July 23rd. An official time will be announced sometime next week.
