The date for nominating service members for inclusion in the Parkersburg Gold Star Families Memorial Monument has been extended to Jan. 15.
The names of Hometown Heroes will be etched on one of the monument panels, said the monument committee. The committee said it depends on the community to nominate service members they feel are candidates.
The nominating form is available at parkersburgcity.com, the City Building on the second and fifth floors and at the Parkersburg City Park Pavilion Office. When complete mail to Mid Ohio Valley Platoon, P.O. Box 5261, Vienna, WV 26105.
Bernie Lyons, of the committee, said, “All donations regardless of size are accepted gratefully. You can visit hwwmohfoundation.org/Parkersburg, press the donation button. It will accept credit/debit cards.”
A check can be made out to the Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation, in the memo line write GSFMM/Parkersburg, said Lyons. Mail to Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation, 12123 Shelbyville Road, Ste 100, Louisville, KY 40243.

Plans call for the monument to be placed in Parkersburg City Park.
Three nominations for the Parkersburg monument have been received, with three more expected soon, said Lyons. The committee would like to receive at least 10 more names.
The nominations are of people who have had a standout record of accomplishment, such as receiving a medal.
