A monument built to honor Gold Star families will be dedicated at Riverside Park in Perrysburg at 10 a.m. Thursday.

According to a statement from the city of Perrysburg, a committee chaired by Perrysburg resident, Veronica Mora, worked to bring the monument to the city.

The monument honors the families of service members who have sacrificed their lives while serving in the military through an initiative founded in 2013 by WWII veteran Hershel “Woody” Williams. There are currently 96 completed monuments across the United States and 78 monuments in progress.

The dedication will take place at Riverside Park located at 245 W. Front St. in Perrysburg and a reception will follow at Schaller Memorial Building located at 130 W. Indiana Ave. in Perrysburg, according to the city.
