Walla Walla, WASH. — A new memorial is up in Walla Walla to honor the families of fallen soldiers.
The Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is located on the corner of Dalles Military and Myra Roads in Walla Walla.
The monument is part of a national project created by Hershel Williams, a Medal of Honor recipient.
It was built to remember Gold Star Families, or families that have lost their soldiers.
"It just brings the attention of the sacrifice of families who participate in military lives and what that does for our community. I think it's important that the rest of the community recognizes what the sacrifice means," said Penelope Linterman, Chair Board of GSFMM.
Construction was pushed back because of COVID.
The Walla Walla monument is the second one built in Washington state.
