MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. — Many people gathered in Marshall County on Wednesday evening as the 70th Gold Star Families Memorial monument in the country was unveiled.
The monument is located outside of the Marshall County Courthouse in the Veterans' Plaza. It's being dedicated to military men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice and to honor Gold Star Families who continue to endure their loss.
It's a gift from the Marshall County community and, as part of the dedication, Medal of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams paid a visit.
"It's always heartwarming, emotional and it re-establishes the sacrifices that were made so that we can do what we do here and remember what is taking place here in America for Gold Star families,” he said.
This is the second Gold Star Family Memorial monument in the Ohio Valley. The other is located at Heritage Port in Wheeling.
