SSG Alan Shaw was killed on February 9, 2007 by an explosion during breaching operations in Baqubah, Iraq while serving with B Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, out of Fort Hood, TX. He exhibited great pride in his military career and was an outstanding leader and friend to his fellow soldiers. Alan died a hero, not only to his family and friends, but to an entire nation. He was a true patriot who loved his family, his Razorbacks, his soldiers, and above all else, his country!
