Chris and his crew perished as their UH-60 crashed 1 minute 30 seconds into a mission chasing a Medi-vac into a dark moonless night in April of 2012. The pilot was disoriented as they flew into the tail end of a storm at 9 p.m. at night as both “Dust-off” and “Chase” headed to a suicide bombing at a checkpoint with fatalities in Helmand, Afghanistan.
As a Gold Star Family, we created The SGT. Chris Workman Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. which gives money to applicants for academic and military advancement. We tribute Gold Star families, and donate time and money to Veterans and schools in memory of our son. We honor the 85 Fallen Heroes of Idaho since 911 with a Fallen Hero Christmas Tree erected every Christmas in the ldaho State Capitol Building in Boise Idaho.
As Chris’ mother I was one of the founding members of Idaho’s first and only American Gold Star Mothers Idaho Chapter.
We didn’t want a hero as Chris left us early in 2013 looking for deployment time as he applied for officer’s candidate school. Three months later we were without our son. We lost half of our family that day.
