David entered the Marine Corps after graduating from John Overton High School in 2003. After boot camp at Parris Island he completed training at Camp LeJeune, before serving at Camp Pendleton.
He loved being a Marine and said that he had finally found where he belonged. David deployed to Iraq in February 2006.
